HADLOW COLLEGE

SPRING LANE

Hadlow College is a new campus-style teaching facility at Spring Lane at Canterbury College, part of EKC Group, which will assist students in preparing for a career in animal management, conservation and horticulture.

The two new campus buildings allows Canterbury College to accept more student applications for the increasingly popular horticulture and animal welfare courses on offer, allowing for various attainment levels, including Pre-16 Junior College, A-Levels, T-Levels, and Higher Education.

The proposals formed a part of wider EKC Group plans to improve the usability and effectiveness of the buildings on the site and to facilitate future expansion of the college.

Adopting a ‘fabric first’ approach, the new Spring Lane campus buildings have been designed with sustainability in mind: sustainable building materials have been specified, and natural ventilation and day lighting will be used to their maximum.

Additionally, green roofs will provide biodiversity and also provide natural insulation to the new buildings, reducing heating needs in the winter and assisting with cooling in the summer.

The primary focus of the design concentrates on creating comfortable and durable teaching spaces, with a sinuous connection between external and internal spaces, creating a link between theory and practice.
