CORNERSTONE SEN SCHOOL
A special educational needs school based in Bexley, London, catering for pupils aged between eleven to nineteen who have ‘associated Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)’.The scheme includes part new build / part refurbishment and upgrade of an existing disused 1900s school building.
Works include to provide general teaching and specialist classrooms and dining hall along with a two-storey new build block, sensitively attached to the existing via single storey link to accommodate additional classrooms, sixth form suite, sports hall and associated changing facilities. Externally works will include a new multi-use games area, external classroom, car parking and green landscaping to complement its setting next to a nature reserve.
With specialist considerations required for the science rooms, food tech, life skills, main hall and sports hall, ICT classrooms, across the spaces served by an existing plant room and a new energy centre, mixing a modular boiler arrangement for the refurbished building and an ASHP system for the new build.
A pair of AHUs providing ventilation to all the teaching and workspaces for with the new build as well as roof turrets for the sports hall, and a mixture of local extract fans and natural ventilation to ensure a pleasant learning environment.
